P.E NATION x TIGMI TRADING

P.E Nation x Tigmi Trading: Timeless designs that help tell our story
Based in Byron Bay with an international following, Tigmi Trading is a consciously curated interiors destination that sources forever pieces for the modern home.

Founded in 2015 by Danielle McEwan, Tigmi was born from a trip to Morocco that inspired its creation. Meaning ‘my home’ in Berber dialect, Tigmi are curators of global treasures, finding beauty in the unusual and imperfect, with the aim to offer pieces that have the power to transport us to faraway places.

With all of this in mind, their Byron Bay space proved the perfect place to shoot the latest edition of P.E Edit, an elevated fashion capsule inspired by sport, launching April 29. Tigmi’s ethos and approach to conscious living, to presenting traditional and unique designs for contemporary living that tell a story while treading more softly on the planet, felt in perfect alignment with our mission at P.E Nation: to make sustainable solutions for the modern wardrobe, with circular fashion our end goal, for high-quality pieces and timeless styles built to stand the test of time. Designs for a multi-layered urban life, lived at fast-pace. Ultimately, essentials that help tell our story – your story. That will help make and hold memories, and create a better path for people and planet.

Here, Tigmi share with us their journey so far, their inspiring thoughts on finding purpose in the global pause, and the lessons we can choose to take from it as we collectively re-emerge and forge onward.

“Conscious living is at the heart of Tigmi Trading. Our collection of timeless pieces is sourced ethically, designed thoughtfully and crafted with the intention to last. With this comes an opportunity to share a story that we hope will resonate and invite another dimension of beauty and soul into the homes and lives of the people who seek them. We are committed to creating positive change and are always searching for better practices to ensure this.”
– Danielle McEwan, Founder & Creative Director of Tigmi Trading

Unearthing purpose within the global pause.

Finding beauty in the unique and imperfect, we present collections that have the power to transport us to faraway places. In a world changed by COVID, the far-flung destinations, communities and artisans that were so interwoven with our brand suddenly felt so far away. However, in ways we didn’t yet understand, we were more connected than ever.

This global pandemic has forced us to slow down and address the impact on our planet.

Having time to breathe, reflect and re-evaluate has been the silver lining and has taught us more about the ways we are intrinsically connected as human beings. As a conscious interior company, we are relentlessly refining our approach to sustainable practices within all we do – this time of COVID has reaffirmed this.

As time passes, sustainable interior design becomes less of an abstract concept and more achievable, just as it is in the world of fashion. We seek to work with progressive, made-to-order business models and align with suppliers and businesses who share the same environmental ethics as us. P.E Nation is an example of this. We have always championed the role of the artisan, uncovering the story that is hidden in the architecture of every piece – whether it is woven

A focus on the past, for a conscious present and fruitful future – for all.

Tigmi began as a rug business, and to this day rugs remain central to our brand. As we work to release our first ever in-house rug range, we are and remain home to a highly curated selection of vintage and contemporary rugs from Morocco and Turkey; each one handpicked for their unique and timeless quality, and their resonance as functional works of art. We consciously choose to work with weavers who use traditional ‘slow’ methods of production, ensuring the continuation of time-honoured skills and knowledge for future generations.

We work in partnership with the awesome team at Reforest Now, an environmental NGO who work to restore and protect Australian rainforest and ecosystems, on planting a tree for every rug sold.

Last year we collaborated with Bloom & Give, on a towel design, with proceeds directly going to support programs for young Indian girls and women by providing the opportunity of education. In the developing world, education is the best way for women to escape the vicious cycle of gender disparity and erase world poverty.

This collaboration, also helps to sustain reliable income for the communities, helping women to be empowered in their roles as custodians of these ancient textile and weaving techniques.

In modern times, the security and comfort of home is more important than ever.

Iconic vintage furniture and lighting is currently having a renaissance. We have enjoyed breathing new life into the classics and introducing them to new generations of collectors. We have originals and re-editions of iconic designs from Pierre Jeanneret, Mario Bellini, Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Paulin, Gae Aulenti and Jan Ekselius. In addition to the designs they are known for, we admire their commitment to creating timeless designs that still resonate with the modern world today.

With our world turned inward, so much refocus has been centred on the places we call home. When we are asked styling advice, we would always suggest going with what you love; anything you connect with innately – and don’t be afraid of colour. Pops of colour that can be found in furniture, or in a rug, are a beautiful way to express individuality and perpetuate joy in your home.

Our aim is to keep pushing ourselves and customers to think and buy consciously - beautifully aesthetic, socially and ethically made design - we don’t believe you need to sacrifice one for the other. We support up-cycling vintage pieces as well as creating socially responsible design, with as minimal impact on the earth as possible.
